Accessibility Statement

Last updated: July 18, 2026

Our Commitment

Express Tools is committed to making expresstools.com accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe everyone deserves equal access to the products and information on our site.

WCAG 2.2 Conformance Target

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.

Technical Specifications

Accessibility of expresstools.com relies on the following technologies:

  • HTML5 semantic markup
  • CSS3 for layout and presentation
  • JavaScript (React / Next.js) for interactive features
  • WAI-ARIA attributes for dynamic components

The site is intended to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • High-contrast and dark-mode browser settings
  • Voice control software (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)

Accessibility Features

Skip Navigation Link

A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass the navigation.

Semantic HTML

Pages use semantic HTML elements (header, nav, main, footer, section, article) to convey document structure to assistive technologies.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements (buttons, links, form inputs) are accessible via keyboard. Focus order follows a logical reading order.

Focus Indicators

Visible focus rings are displayed on all interactive elements when navigated by keyboard.

Image Alt Text

Product images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images use empty alt attributes.

Colour Contrast

Text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.2 Level AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.

Scalable Text

Text can be resized up to 200% using browser zoom without content becoming unusable or requiring horizontal scrolling.

ARIA Labels

Dynamic components (cart, mega menu, dropdowns, modal dialogs) include appropriate ARIA roles, labels, and live region announcements.

Form Labels

All form inputs have associated labels or accessible names. Error messages are linked to their respective form fields.

Pinch Zoom

Mobile viewport allows pinch-to-zoom. We do not disable user-scaling (maximum-scale is set to 5, not 1).

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some areas of the site may not fully conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Known limitations include:

Mega-navigation keyboard traversal

In progress

The mega-menu is accessible via keyboard but may require multiple Tab presses to navigate. We are working on an improved keyboard trap and Escape-key dismissal.

PDF product spec sheets

Planned

Manufacturer-provided PDF spec sheets may not be fully accessible. Tagged PDF alternatives are on our roadmap.

Third-party embedded scripts

Ongoing

Some third-party widgets (chat, analytics) may not fully conform. We evaluate these tools for accessibility before deployment.

Complex product comparison tables

Planned

Comparison tables with many columns may be difficult to navigate on small screens. We plan to add responsive table patterns with proper scope attributes.

Testing Approach & Ongoing Efforts

We assess the accessibility of our site through a combination of:

  • Automated scanning with axe-core during development
  • Manual keyboard navigation testing
  • Screen reader testing with VoiceOver and NVDA
  • Color contrast checks against WCAG 2.2 ratios
  • Review against WCAG 2.2 success criteria during code review

We are committed to continuous improvement. Accessibility fixes are prioritized alongside other defect fixes. Our goal is to review the full site against WCAG 2.2 Level AA on an annual basis and after major redesigns.
