Er1 on Spectra Precision rotary lasers (LL500, HV301, LL300) means the unit is tilted beyond its automatic self-leveling range of ±5 degrees. Spectra rotary lasers use a self-leveling pendulum system; when the tilt exceeds what the leveling mechanism can compensate, Er1 appears and operation halts.

Er1 is the same fundamental issue as Topcon E-01 and Leica F01 — and the fix is identical: manually level the tripod to within 3-4 degrees of level before powering on. Spectra's LL500 is widely used in residential and light commercial work; Er1 is frequently encountered by contractors new to rotary laser setup.
