Product Description
Non-Metallic Pipe & Drain Locating — The DD300 Plumbers Kit
The DD300 Connect Plumbers Package brings Leica's most advanced locator to non-metallic utility work. The included Midi Sonde 8/33kHz pushes through any drain or sewer and broadcasts a signal the DD300 detects from the surface — pinpointing PVC, clay, and HDPE services that carry no electrical signal. No transmitter required for drain tracing.
Unlike the DD120 Plumbers Package, the DD300 delivers 7-meter sonde depth (vs 3m on DD120), a full-color LCD display, and ±5% depth accuracy. For plumbing contractors and drain engineers who need the best available tool, this is it.
Also performs full passive detection out of the box — Power mode for live cables, Radio mode for services already carrying a signal. Upgrade to active locating anytime by adding a DA300 Transmitter .
Key Features
Multiple Detection Modes
Auto, Power, Radio, and Transmitter modes detect a wide range of buried utilities without manual frequency selection.
Depth Estimation
Measure line and sonde depth from 0.3m to 3m (1–10 ft) with ±10% accuracy when used with a signal transmitter.
Hazard Zone Indicator
Visual alert warns the operator when the locator detects a buried utility in close proximity — before you dig.
Audio Guidance
85 dBA tone guidance at 30cm helps operators accurately trace buried utilities by sound in noisy site conditions.
15-Hour Battery Life
6× AA alkaline batteries deliver a full day of continuous operation without recharging. Standard batteries available anywhere.
IP54 Weatherproof
Protected against dust ingress and water splashes — designed and tested for demanding construction job site conditions.
Key Features
Full Color LCD Display
The DD300 is the only DD-series locator with a full-color screen — mode, depth, and signal strength displayed clearly in any light condition.
7m Sonde / 5m Line Depth
Detect sondes at 7 meters — more than double the DD120/130's 3m limit. Reach services buried deeper than any other DD model.
±5% Depth Accuracy
Twice as accurate as the DD120/130 (±10%). Pinpoint buried service depths with professional-grade precision on every locate.
Midi Sonde 8/33kHz
Push through any drain — the Midi Sonde traces PVC, clay, and HDPE pipes the DD120/130 can't detect without a signal on the line.
GPS + Bluetooth + 8GB
Record GPS-tagged locate data on 8 GB of internal memory. Download via Bluetooth for GIS mapping and digital compliance records.
IP65 Weatherproof
Dust-tight and water-jet resistant — a full step above the IP54 rating on DD120/130. Built for demanding all-weather field operations.
Digital Trim — DD300 Exclusive Feature
Pinpoint the Right Utility. Even When Signals Overlap.
When multiple buried utilities run close together, signal saturation makes it nearly impossible to tell which line you’re tracking. Digital Trim solves this — rescaling the gain bar in real time so you can clearly identify and isolate the target utility, even in the most complex underground environments.
Signal Saturation — Targets Indistinguishable
The gain bar saturates. All three targets appear to carry the signal — the operator cannot determine which utility is the actual target. High risk of locating the wrong service.
Clear Signal Response — Target Confirmed
Digital Trim rescales the saturated gain bar, showing a clear view of underground assets. The red indicator line appears — use the function keys to manage gain for precise, confident target identification.
Built for the Field. Trusted by Professionals.
From the Curb to the Job Site — One System Does It All
The DD300 Connect is designed to work where utility contractors actually work — outdoors, in all weather, on complex multi-utility sites where a single missed line means a crew shutdown. IP65-rated and built to handle the demands of a full day in the field.

Understanding Utility Detection — Resources
Not sure which locating method, frequency, or system fits your application? These resources cover the fundamentals through advanced techniques — everything you need to make the right call before you break ground.
Utility Locators — What They Do & When You Need One
Electromagnetic locators detect buried cables, metallic pipes, and energized services using induced or applied signal frequencies. Any time a crew is digging, potholing, or drilling near unknown services, a locator is your first line of defense against costly — and dangerous — utility strikes.
Introducing the DD300 Connect — GPS, Data Logging & Color LCD
The DD300 Connect is the first utility locator in the DD series with a full-color display, integrated GPS, Bluetooth, and 8 GB of onboard memory. Every locate is GPS-tagged and stored — ready to download and share with supervisors, GIS systems, or compliance records. A true field data platform built into a locator.
Tracing PVC, Clay & HDPE — How Sonde Locating Works
Plastic pipes, clay drains, and HDPE sewers carry no electrical signal — making them invisible to standard EM locators. A sonde solves this: push it through the pipe with a drain rod and the locator detects its signal from the surface, giving you precise position and depth. The DD300 can track sondes to 7 meters — deeper than any other model in the DD series.
Why You Need a Signal Transmitter for Active Locating
Passive detection finds live, energized services carrying current or radio frequencies. Active locating — using a signal transmitter like the DA300 — injects a known frequency onto a service so you can trace it, measure its depth, and confirm its route. Dead cables, de-energized mains, and metallic pipes with no current all require an active signal. The DA300 unlocks 83 kHz and 131 kHz on the DD300 — frequencies that dramatically improve discrimination on complex utility networks.
Understanding Active Frequencies — Which One to Use and Why
Lower frequencies (512 Hz, 640 Hz) travel farther with less signal bleedover — ideal for long cable runs. Mid-range frequencies (8 kHz, 33 kHz) balance range and accuracy for general tracing. High frequencies (83 kHz, 131 kHz, exclusive to DD300 + DA300) couple to the target cable better in dense utility corridors. Choosing the right frequency is the difference between clean data and a confusing signal response.
EML or GPR? Choosing the Right Locating Technology
Electromagnetic locating (EML) — what the DD300 does — is fast, affordable, and effective on metallic services and sondes. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) detects any subsurface anomaly including plastic utilities, but requires a trained operator and is significantly more expensive. Most utility locating workflows start with EML and bring in GPR for complex sites or where non-metallic services can't be traced with a sonde.
From Locate to Record — Using the DD300 Connect on a Professional Site
The DD300 workflow: passive sweep to identify live cables, active trace with DA300 to confirm routes and depths, GPS-tag each locate on the built-in memory, Bluetooth transfer to detection software back at base. For utility survey companies and municipalities building digital utility records, the DD300 closes the loop between field work and permanent documentation.
